During Science & Engineering Week at St. Peter's School enjoyed a week of Science investigations. The Theme for the 2011 week was communication. St. Peter's School looked at communication through sound, starting with sound being all around us and that everything makes it own unique sound. Key Stage 2 children went on to do investigations into pitch using water in jars and different size plant pots. All children made sliders and straw pipes. In Key Stage 1 the children made twang boxes and a range of shakers and drums. On Thursday we all played our instruments - a cacophony of sounds! Lots of other investigations took place. Yew Class tested different materials to make tea bags and made sand timers to last exactly on minute. Fir Class had an amazing time producing volcanoes and blowing corks out of bottles. Elm Class gathered a range of shoes with different soles and tested them to see which had the most friction. Ash Class tried to make a nest to keep their mouse warm, but no cruelty was involved as the mouse was really a small hot potato. Oak Class tried to change the colour, shape and size of bubbles, but only managed to change the size! All the children at St. Peter's wanted to do Science all the time because they enjoyed it so much!
